Hi everyone, Zeke here - I’m a Product Manager at Cloudcade currently leading the development of a brand new game that we’ve been excited to unveil - Card Brawl: Duel of Champions!

Card Brawl: Duel of Champions takes the colorful characters of the Shop Heroes universe, the collectible nature of a CCG, and marries it with the gameplay of a turn-based RPG tactics game. No longer a mere shopkeeper, the game puts you in the shoes of a powerful champion and pits players against each other in strategic combat. Command powerful warriors, elusive rogues, adept archers, and mystical mages to defeat the enemy Champion.

In Card Brawl, you fight across the game board - avoiding your opponent’s traps and powerful spells while destroying enemy units. Your goal? To take down the opposing Champion! To succeed, you will have to carefully plan ahead: understanding how the units move, predicting how your opponent will deploy their cards, choosing whether to reinforce or to diversify your attacks, and the best time to unleash unique and powerful champion abilities and ultimates.

Our goal when creating Card Brawl was to have short, satisfying, and strategic matches. Units move automatically at the end of the player’s turn, streamlining combat and adding new strategic depth as players must plan for the movement of their units and their opponent’s each turn. Any damage done beyond the health of units in combat is passed on to the Champion as Overflow damage, making every board interaction impactful and preventing turtling. And players can cycle a card every turn, which helps ensure that the player always has a meaningful action available.

Positioning is key in Card Brawl. Units battle across five lanes, and are one of four classes: Warrior, Archer, Rogue, and Mage. Each have their own respective movement and attack ranges. Many Spells, Traps, and Minion abilities affect a board location, and planning around these different options will be paramount for success.

Champions, Units, Spells, and Traps hail from five elements: Fire, Water, Nature, Light, and Dark.

  • Fire is aggressive, overwhelming its enemy with raw power.

  • Water, ever-flowing, rushes the enemy Champion and executes enemies quickly.

  • Nature uses the essence of life to wear down its foes and rejuvenate its units.

  • Light bathes its allies with protection to outlast its foes.

  • Dark draws on pure destructive power, often at risk to oneself, to envelop everything in shadows.

Each element will have multiple Champions, with new ones released often. Each Champion comes with its own special ability and Ultimate ability. Additionally, each Card has five levels - gone are the days of duplicate cards being useless. Leveling up your Cards will give you powerful new options as you improve your collection. With all of these features and ways to expand meta-game depth, the multitude of strategies available to players is endless!

That’s a good overview of the basics in the game. Thanks for reading, and we hope that you enjoyed learning about Card Brawl: Duel of Champions!
